PV Elite 2011 Service Pack 2, September 2011 Fixes/Enhancements ------------------------- *) Due to an interpretation of ASCE 7, most vessels will now fall into the 'rigid structure' category regardless of the Height to diameter ratio. This will have the effect of lowering the wind loads. The printout for the ASCE 7 wind load report has also been revised. *) The wind load calculation for NBC 2005/2010 has also been revised. The 'static' wind load procedure has been adopted. PV Elite has always used the 'dynamic' approach in the past. Additionally, the calculations for speedup over hills and escarpments has also been added. The printout has also been revised. *) For ASME cones whose bottom/left ends were not a line of support, the previous element was not the correct length. This problem has been resolved. *) For ASME VIII-1 cones, when either side was not a line of support and there are no intermediate rings, the length of one side was not including the length of the cone. *) When determining the pressure used to determine the required thickness for ASME MDMT reduction calculations, the static liquid pressure was not added in some cases. *) When determining saddle stresses, the weight of liquid in the tubes of heat exchangers was not being considered. *) Fixed an issue in the MDMT summary report that could cause the MDMT curve to be an invalid or incorrect character. *) For ASME U-tube tubesheet simply supported calculations, the total moment included stiffness contributions from the shell and channel even though the various parameters were set to zero. This resulted in an unconservative tubesheet thickness. *) Fixed the 3D graphics for circular clips on horizontal elements. *) Re-instated a L/t out of range error for ASME VIII-2 elliptical heads. *) For vessels with sump heads there was a fix for determining the MAWP for the on-screen nozzle calculations. *) Added an error check for PD:5500 tubesheets to avoid a divide by zero. *) For exchangers that have fully integral tubesheets, suppress evaluation of channel sections using the overall length between the tubesheets. *) Added some error checks that prevented possible divide by zeros from occurring. *) Used appropriate Division 2 MDMT references in the MDMT summary in 3 places where there were equivalent Div 1 references. *) For vertical vessels that had sump heads, the maximum vessel height might not have been computed correctly for all wind codes. *) In the nozzle dialog, when the nozzle distance and nozzle layout angle are modified and a movement button is pressed, the layout angle was not 'remembered'. *) Fix the printout for EN-13445 not to include the internal pressure + 2 times the static head. This also caused the straight flange thickness to come out too thick. *) For ASME horizontal vessels that had a different thickness at the midspan, the longitudinal pressure stress was computed using the thickness of the section over the saddle support. *) PD:5500 vessels with a different thickness at the midspan will now use the different thickness at the midspan for the stress calculation at the midspan. *) For PD:5500 Cat 3 designs, the allowable stress was computed slightly conservatively. For tubesheet analysis per 5500 category 3, the allowable operating stress was not being computed per category 3 rules. *) For heat exchangers that had multiple shell courses, the displaced tube volume was not being accounted for in the successive elements when the element volume was calculated. *) When the design code was switched from EN-13445 to ASME, the data for the nozzle reinforcing pads was lost and set to uninitialized values. *) In some ASME VIII-1 vessel models with no external pressure, the knuckle required thickness may have been reported incorrectly. *) Fixed a program abort when hub nozzles are used when the FVC catalog was not 'visited' in the nozzle dialog. *) For PD 5500, the corrosion allowance was being added to the flanged extension required thickness and did need to be added. *) For PD 5500 tubesheets, the stress at the initial corroded thickness was reported incorrectly leading to confusion regarding the results. *) The areas per UG-37 for the MAPnc case on non-calculated blind ANSI flanges was not being computed. *) Corrected the material listing number for some of AS1548 materials. Fixes/Changes in CodeCalc ------------------------- *) For ASME U-tube tubesheet simply supported calculations, the total moment included stiffness contributions from the shell and channel even though the various parameters were set to zero. This resulted in an unconservative tubesheet thickness. *) For WRC 107/297 the option to select material from Div.2 was grayed out by mistake. PV Elite 2011 SP1 Hot fix 2, May 2011 This hot-fix addresses issues: ------------------------------ *) Fix some equation references when using the ASCE and IBC Earthquake Codes *) Fix the data update for the ASCE 2010 earthquake input *) For the UG-45 shear stress calc, the torsional moment was 12 times too high for occ and expansion loadings. This resulted in conservative shear stress. *) Add Thermal coefficient 62 to the ASME databases for N08367 (AL-6XN) *) For vessels supported on legs or lugs, the pressure stresses on elements above the lugs/legs may not have been properly included in some cases to load cases that involved IP,EP, HP or any pressure load case descriptor *) For leg baseplate calcs, include the check for the minimum distance in the equation substitution. *) Fixed a particular issue with SPLM. *) In the Mexican Wind Code, the site elevation was limited and the limitation was removed. *) Fix an error in the calculation of the bevel angle (on the nozzle dialog) when metric units are used *) In the vessel summary, revise the diameter basis line to not include sump heads *) Include the weight of support lugs in the rigging analysis. *) For VIII-1, fix an error in the MDMT summary for UG-20(f) for Nozzles. An exemption may have been given in some cases when it should not have been. Changes in SP 1: ---------------- New Features/Enhancements ------------------------- Code Case 2651 for Electric Immersion Heaters has been Implemented ASCE 7-2010 Wind Code added ASCE 7-2010 Seismic Code added NBC-2010 Wind Code added NBC-2010 Seismic Code added An option to use the ASME Metric Database on Startup has been added For ASME VIII-1 jobs, PV Elite should analyze faster in most cases than before For ASME VIII-1, the conical output has been embellished Example problems from ASME PTB-3-2010 ( VIII-2 ) are now included For ASME VIII, when yield stress values are not given at higher temperatures, they may now be derived per UG-28 Some explanatory notes have been added to clarify the results of some of the calculations Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE) is now available for the Indian Earthquake Code Fixes/changes to this Version ----------------------------- The ASME material database was missing coefficient IDs for Austenitic Group 3 Steels The ASME material database did not have MDMT values for SA-350 LF2 The nozzle dialog might abort when moving to the next nozzle The nozzle dialog might not update the data properly depending on the usage The calc weight button in the nozzle dialog would generate far to heavy values for EN and 5500 nozzles In the 2286 calculation the skirt length 'L' was taken as the overall length of the vessel 'Lu' If there was only an external pressure failure on a nozzle, there was no warning (ASME VIII-1) For ASME, if a nozzle passed External pressure but Failed 1-10, that would not be displayed in the status area For exchangers, the on-screen nozzle design pressure using the MAWP option might not come up correct When the additional static pressure option was used, the value of the pressure would be doubled for the nozzle design or not used at all if there were no nozzles For ASME VIII-1 conical sections, the allowables for the reinforcement are segregated for the appropriate use in 1-5 and 1-8 In the ASME Code table UG-45 there is at least one Metric value that does not seem correct. PV Elite now uses the minimum of the metric/imperial values in the UG-45 calculation. The overall MDMT value in the MDMT summary may not have been computed in all cases and this had been addressed. The on-screen calculation of trext (status bar) for ASME VIII-1 elliptical and torispherical heads did not include the UG-33(a)(1) check In some cases the tangent to tangent length was not reported correctly on the vessel summary The files Matfiled2.bin and En_Group.txt were missing from the 2011 install and have been added The material database editor did not allow retrieval of newly edited EN and 5500 user material databases There was a fix to the printout for thin expansion joints that caused an abort condition Fixes/Changes in CodeCalc ------------------------- *) Issue of crash when abutting nozzles located on cylinders and cone were analyzed per App. 1-10 method. *) 2009 year material database was been opened up in the input instead of Addenda 2010 material database. This could cause 0 yield stress and mismatch of UNS numbers between input and output. *) Added a missing material file *) Some Coefficient of thermal expansion Ids were missing for some materials. *) MAWP for some "smaller" nozzle that were exempt from UG-37 requirement per ASME code was show conservative. *) The cone-cylinder junction reinforcement area check calculation for external pressure case was using the allowable stress at internal design temperature. *) Fixed an issue where the graphics drivers were inadvertently set to "msw" from "opengl".
